We have hosted, run and participated in home church on and off again for a few years. Having just moved back to Voorhees we are at this point a core family that is looking for more to join us. We have realized that regular church is just not our calling. My wife and I have a blended family with 5 kids, one off in college but 4 around for home church. The kids still around are girls ages 14, 13, 4, and a boy 11. Our focus has been mostly on the kids, but we would be happy to adjust that for those who have serious interest in building something new.
As a summary of who we are, I grew up protestant in a country church, my wife grew up in a city girl with a hispanic catholic culture. Both of us really feel called to a deep, more fellowship based environment that is really only found in the home church movement.
Religion without Spirituality is dead, Spirituality without religion is lost. In an age where many who have struggled with their personal faith have “deconstructed,” we are purposefully reconstructing our faith by going back to our roots and looking at the early church.
We have become influenced by the 1st century jewish context in which Christ spoke to his first followers, and also the ante-Nicene church fathers. We draw from many Christian faith traditions, but we don’t really fit neatly into any category, but we encourage a more conservative approach to scripture. Unlike “non-denominational” churches however we do not avoid such topics but explore the beauty and depths of some of those traditions without pushing specific doctrinal teachings. We believe in unity in the essentials, and liberty in the non-essentials. As for what we believe the essentials are we would be happy to have that discussion.
Our hope is that God uses us to create a faith community which is simple and practical at heart. A community that is led by regular people, not a priestly class. A community that promotes real discipleship, fellowship and accountability. One that possesses a leadership structure firm and strong on the essentials, that provides solid guidance and direction, but at the same time allows for the development of a more personal faith and freedom in Christ on what might be considered gray areas.
We wish to live radical lives in Christ dedicated to service and love of each other and the lost. We want to be transformed by the spirit, and to serve in love, humility and faith. We want to be in the world, but not of the world, and meet the lost where they are at (1 Cor 9:19-23). We seek to grow through active discussion, and critical thinking not regurgitated theology or denomination specific interpretations.
We don’t expect we can be perfect. We do not claim to have all the answers, and we disagree in love on some of the details. In a world that is growing increasingly hostile to any form of Christianity we believe it is time to step out of our boxes respectfully, when possible, and return to the unity Christ called us to (1 Cor 1:10, Gal 3:28, Jn 13:35, Rom 14:19)
Please feel free to message us, and get to know us and feel like we are on the same or atleast a similar page. We want you to feel comfortable before you come to meet with us. No pressure or arm twisting here, we just want to love and serve our brothers and sisters.
